Ran across a good read about winter survival shelter in snow country that he claims is good to -20F and below. I won't get a chance to test it in my area but maybe some of you will find it useful.

That reminds me that I need to "winterize" the BOB's in each vehicle. It's difficult to think about winter when it's still 80 most days. Finally it's beginning to cool off a little here.

Good link, Semper. The key is the size of the area to be warmed, especially if you only have body heat to do the job. A cozy little shelter that you almost have to wedge yourself into is great, as long as there is enough dead air space to keep you from conducting the cold directly to your body.
one thing to remember in any shelters in winter time is to use "isolation" under you to limit ground frost from leeching your heat out
twice as much under you as on top.
