Ripe for a collapse? Yes. Prepared for a collapse? Um no. Not even close. We're too pampered and lethargic.
pampered and lethargic is kind of an understatement. My father is from Peru and my mother is from India (long story on how they ment) both are very hard working people who are proud to be in America.

More then once my father would come home from work complaining about how the people who were born in American complained the whole time they were working come lunch and break time they would literely gorge themselves then complain some more because they had to go back to work. come pay day they would complain because there pay checks were to small.

The HR manager of the company my father works for told me at the last company picnic that nobody has ever claimed the ladder as fast as my father had. A very over weight guy had over heard us talking and said it was only because he was a foreigner. The HR manger looked at him and told him in no uncertain terms it was because my father never stopped working and he needed to quite being bitter about my father getting his position.

The man waddled away mumbling under his breath. the HR manger told me this guy had been demoted because he wasn't doing his job. my father had been his assistant and doing all his work so they gave it to my father. Along with a very large pay raise.

My mother is a house wife and there home is always spotless. There is always food to eat. she is up before the sun and works late into the night on and around the house. She and my father never stops working.

I grew up watching this and I have come to see now that I have my own job what my father was talking about. the people I work with are so lazy. to get them to do a simple task is next to impossible. yet they want more money for doing nothing.

This was one of the biggest factors that has led me to be interested in Survival Preparedness. The way I have it figured the American public has gotten so lazy they wont lift a finger to help themselves if another Katrina type or any other disaster happens. I will be on my own.
Roanoke, those lazy ones will work or starve in a Sit-X. When you are responsible for feeding yourself, there isn't room for being lazy. Nature doesn't tolerate the slackers.

A lot of the type you describe will become the rioters and looters. But even that will become harder as time goes by, and then they'll either have to suck it up or roll over and die.
People who some of us respect(Tappan, Rowles and others) seem to think that ecconomic colaspe is going to be the big SHTF and I think that it can happen sooner than we think because of the national and the national dept to foriegn countrys and dependance on foriegn oil and retail items. I think in a bibical soon.
With sites like this one, it is my hope that as people stop by, even if they don't join, we can make more folks aware of the need to be prepared for some big shift that could alter the world/US stage in a major way.

Maybe if they see that there are some level headed, family oriented, working people like us that take these things serious enough to prepare, then they should at least think about it.

The more regular people that make it through a really bad Sit-X, the easier it will be to start rebuilding a better society. A society where my grandchildren will be safe and fed and clothed and sheltered. A future, in other words.
Yes, this will be a problem. Phere are many people accustomed to getting handouts and an easy life. Post SHTF when supplies are short and the handouts stop, they will try and forcefully take from you rather than work to satisfy their needs.
Exactly what is said,

will it come: started already (it will slowly evolve)
people ready: not hardly (it will be rapidly apperent)
It's not just the welfare recipients who will struggle to survive; it's the average person who has nothing set aside. Working class people who live paycheck to paycheck. They have no survival skills, no food or water set aside. No basic first aid skills. I bet a lot of them will become the new criminal element. They will steal to feed their kids because they can't function without electric stoves, microwave ovens, and pre packaged meals. Here in Utardia (That's Utah for those who don't know my nickname for the state), I wonder how many Bishop's Storehouses will be over run by hungry people in a serious event.
