Steps to take if and when the power goes down and you loose your furnace.
1: Choose the smallest room in the dwelling that will fit everybody. Animals included.
2: wall off said room with blanckets or plastick sheets or any thing you can get a hold of. Leave a couple of inches up top and bottom for air circulation. if said room has a door leave it open a inch or so.
If you don't have any inside only rooms fitting your needs try to hang blankets on the outside walls. Out side walls will always be different temperatures then inside walls, so the blankets will insulate you from the temperature differential. Remember the point here is to heat a smaller space. Smaller spaces will always heat quicker but also cool quicker then a large space.
I cant stress enough to leave the space I mentioned above. bring in fresh air to keep from asphyxiation. The more living body's in a smaller space the better, hence the need for the pets. Body heat is a good short term substitute for a heater.
Be very careful with candles while they give off heat and light they are also a fire hazard. Colman lamps are awesome for heat as well but they consume a lot of oxygen. It will not do any body any good to be warm while there dying of oxygen depletion.
