Hello,

Ok, I joined a vol FF dept 8 years ago, I obtained an EMT lic. I've sent my wife to nursing school and my wife, child and myself are working on a second language (Spanish was the most logical) Thought about sign language.

I've put together a weapons that share ammo and accumulated ammo.

i've scattered and buried scrap metal to help hide my cached ammo and extra food stores. heaven help us if the wife and I ever get Alzheimer's.

I've worked with my wife on the firing range. My 3 yo helps me clean up the weapons.

I've learned how to do more than garden by buying a 10 acre piece of property with a pond. I plan to add some goats and milking cows. I can fix a tractor & a generator now.

My DL and mailing address are all listed to a mail forwarding service in another city.

I've built a library of manuals and articles to assist when the net is down.

I've learned how to make a peacful protest (tea Bags etc.)

I've learned how to have alternate skills. Sewing, making candles, things that would make me a viable member to a survival group if sit x ever happened. I need to learn how to skin an animal after I kill it but that's coming.

I've got the bug out bags in our vehicles, at her office and mine.

OK, now I would like to know. What's the next step? or steps? I think I've covered all the basics. How do I become advanced?

I Ran and trained K9 S&R for many years, and my wife is a nurse. Every body in my house speaks Spanish except me. My wife is Hispanic. My daughter Signs but she learned it just for fun.

Don't forget to study up on things like going un-armed against the knife and using things like rocks and sticks and unconvential weapons. In my opinion too many people rely ONLY on fire arms.

Make sure a bulk of your supplies are close at hand. Most people will never bug out but remain at there home. Especially in a marshal law type situation ware travel is restricted.

Its not just practical its fun and doing things together makes the family bond stronger. A stronger family bond makes for a stronger determination to live threw the Sit-x

I am jealous. My northern BOL is close to a river but still not on my property. and close up there is still about 1/4 mile away. Lucky I put in a well with a hand pump for water.

I try to keep every thing backed up on my PDA, I have a old lap top that I back manuals up to thats kept in a Faraday cage in our safe room. and I print out most manuals and keep hard copy in a fire proof box

The Alternative skills are use full in not threatening times as well. think of all the money you can save by doing it your self. not to mention DIY is fun

You probably already know this but you should also have bug out bags with gear in it specifically for huffing it. Things like sensible walking shoes, pre-broke in.

There is a little information there now but more is coming. some of the information is double. A accident that happened in the re build after the hack. so pick and choose.

I'm ex-mil (EOD) and relatively recently single, I've had first aid and CPR training, but I myself am looking for additional medical training (like EMT or the like). Maybe I should just find a nice nurse and get hitched please register to see images in the messages. hereRegister here!. I know Spanish and can speak enough Japanese to get by. Learning sign language is a great idea.

I agree with AA, unarmed combat or non-firearm combat training is a good idea. Learn how to use your rifle as a melee weapon (unless its a AR style, too fragile) should the need arise. Also, weapons that share ammo are awesome in ammo stockpile simplicity, but I've always been worried that I am putting all of my eggs into one basket. Variety is the spice of life. I have 7.62 for most of my weapons, but I plan on picking up something in .223 and building a small stock just in case.

My group tries to go to the range often (within the limitations of the ammo shortage) and we all get accustomed to each others weapons in case we need to use them. My 3 yo doesn't even know that I own guns, his first word was "Boom" (I'll make an EOD spec. out of him yet) but for personal reasons I don't want to expose him to that yet.

You are way ahead of the curve here. I am making due with the land I have but have not made that leap yet. My current fall back is with family in a rural area with lots of land and a large pond. Mechanical skills are a must have for anyone with our lifestyles.

Again I agree with AA, any skill that you can use in a survival situation, you can also use right now to either save money, or even make money. I just picked up again on beer and wine making, it has saved me a bundle, and is a lot of fun to do. Use your hobbies to increase your skills.

You are advanced. Plain and simple. Beginners are your average joe with a small BoB and a stockpile of food. You are ahead of the curve and you should be proud of yourself. I salute you.

Next step? Practice practice practice. Do some trial runs, hit the main breaker at home and go dark for a weekend and see how you fare. Toss on your BoB and go for a 5 mile hike, see how tired you are afterwards. Build up endurance. Go camping with just the contents of your BoB, and learn what is nessicery and what is fluff (funny that the fluff is usually heavier then the nessicery). Teach others what you have learned, sharing knowlage is the best way to help others to survive should sitx become reality. Never stop learning. And above all else, make sure to live life to the fullest, because you never know what tomorrow may bring.

un-armed Combat: I agree with you. courtesy of the Fire Dept, I've seen people mangled with all kinds of things and been glad it wasn't me.

peaceful protest. When I mentioned this, I was concerned that I was violating the no politics clause. Thank you for not dinging me on that. That being said, is it ok to mention a product that you have found to be useful? I mean that you've really put to the test and not just read about?

Again, I concur with you. Making the family bond stronger kind of ties in with the DIY. There is so much to learn and share with the family. I want to learn how to make "toys" (via, whittling or origami) the way my grandparents did. So. that if we should have a sit X, I've heard that being able to keep everyone entertained and protected from boredom is crucial.

I figured that the advanced people had, I don't know, warehouses full of stuff and the ability to recreate all of their equipment using only a knife and a roll of Duct tape. HA! I'm worried about being tied to my belongings but don't see a way around that.

My future skill to learn is how to make those quote boxes like you did below. That's pretty neat.

I'm relieved to hear about the relaxed atmosphere regarding lengthy posts. I'm sort of wordy and probably a nerd for thinking this format of sharing ideas is exciting.

Just be careful on this topic, it can be over whelming to a lot of people. EMP can come from more then just weapons. A near by lighting strike release a pulse but most dangerous to our way of life is a major solar storm

Talking about doing the right thing in the form of protest is different from talking about doing some thing in the name of a politician or political affiliation. SO no T&C violation to get a ding on.

ponds are great for other things other then drinking, like growing stuff and animals can drink water that humans cant.

Amen Boredom is more of a danger then most other things.

That is a matter of personal opinion. I am very much a hands on DIY type but in this case if you can afford to go with prefab do so.

Most of us So called advanced survivalist are pretty ordinary folks living pretty ordinary lives. We run under a pretty simple rule. Prepare for the worst of tomorrow with out hurting your self today.

Its exciting to a lot of us especially me that was my biggest driving force in starting Simple Survival web site and forums.

Re: Toss on your BoB and go for a 5 mile hike: Do you think it would be useful to check out experienced yachters and see what they place on their craft for long/short term trips? or even check with the local boy Scout troop and see what they carry?

It has been a long week end. In this case it was A dear friend that has been like a mother to me. in fact she was my mothers best friend for as long as I could remember.

She has been in chronic pain for years due to arthritis. For years she has been taking over the counter pain medications. While she did not abuse them. they slowly caused internal bleeding. she had gone to the doctors two days before and finally gotten a prescription med for pain. that new medication caused a drip to turn into a turrant. In other words she was bleeding to death. They have replaced her blood 1 and a half times now. and today she is having exploratory surgery to find the bleeds.

I am bring this up in the forums as a warning. Even over the counter meds can be dangerous.

I don't know if this was discussed in a Bug out vehicular post, but learn some commonality vehicle parts. Its kind of like weapons that share ammo. Which cars have the same motor, same drive line parts, which motors share parts but come in different displacement sizes (ie ford 360 and 390, same blocks different displacements.) A chevy camaro with a 351 shares engine parts with a chevy 1500 pickup. It good to know what your bug out vehicle can use for parts if it needs it. I'll probably post a something about this in the bug out section in the coming days.
