The Foxfire books are an amazing compilation of simple living off the grid.
The how-tos range from herb gardening to soap making to barn building.
The series is about 12 books. Guests cannot see links in the messages. Please register to forum by clicking here to see links.

The books can be a bit expensive so I recommend looking in the library for them (although being an older print they may not carry them any longer) or better yet look on p2p networks for someone to share them with you.
The library in are area says if we don't have it ask and we will get it. They have never let me down. most other library's should be the same.

Ive found lots of use full legal free stuff about survival on P2P so always check there to. I am not sure but I believe you are allowed to down load for evaluation purposes but it must be bought if you like it or deleted. I believe the evaluation period is some thing like 5 days. Don't take that as law tho I was told that by a friend. not a lawyer or legal expert.

Great post SW
I bought all the foxfire books averaging about $10 a book also found 2 books called Loblolly which are similar from a Texas point of view.
There are sources that I can't recall right now that will let you down load the foxfire books for free which I may do. I have taken to down loading many survival/ wood craft/ foraging subjects in to my mini laptop and carry it with me on excursions.
Ive used a PDA for years to store ebooks it can be very handy having a self contained mini library with you
