I think either of these vehicles would do nicely especially if they were 4wheel drive. they are roomy and I know the suburban is fairly dependable especially if you have an older model. you can work on it easily.
I don't plan on going anywhere so I have not thought too much on this issue.
Both are fine vehicles how ever I am a firm believer in the jeep yj or xj. I to have no plans on going any ware as well but being a survivalist I TRY to take every thing into consideration.
I used to have a 78 CJ7 that was very simple to work on and was very dependable. just wasnt much room in it to haul anything for a bug-out vehicle. I guess a person could get a small enclosed trailer of some sort to pull behind it ! sure wish I had kept it

I presently own and drive a 1994 jeep Cherokee sport with the 4.0. I love it it is very easy to fix. got parts all over and there built well. They are also 4 door with a storage area. decent millage too. some thing to think about.
I did have a 98 Cherokee but it just didn't stand up good. it was fairly easy to work on but the electronic stuff was horrible. it was a good vehicle when everything was fixed. I inherited the problems from the people I got it from and it had 180,000 on it. I believe it was a good vehicle if not for that >
too bad you didn't get a older one like mine hardly no electronics. Look for a 95 or earlier
I may do that, I have 5 vehicles now and may need to trade 3 of them for more suitable ones
