An emergency CB that fits in your glove box or under the seat.
There are a few ways you can go about this...
The first is the antenna. A small magnet mount antenna can be purchased at most wal-marts in the automotive department near the car stereo's. These thread together in a few pieces (base, lower stem, loading coil, whip) so they can easily be stowed in a bag and the stashed in the glove box or console. Make sure the antenna is assembled and tuned to ultimate efficiency by tuning to lowest possible swr. Then mark the whip with a permanent marker at the top of the loading coil and disassemble. On to the radio: A small inexpensive CB is a midland 1001. These can be purchased for around $40 from various vendors. You can power them of of a cigarette lighter plug. You could also purchase the 40 channel walkie talkies that allow for external antenna attachment. Many of these offer a cigarette lighter plug. Now when in an emergency situation you can assemble your antenna, attach it to the rood, attach you radio and be on the air calling for help in under 5 minutes. |

Nice job thanks for this. Its great advise. I had never thought of the idea with the antenna. Im gonna star this thread because its that important. Please keep them coming. you have no idea how impotent this is to the average person. they may not relies it now but they will.
You cannot be truly prepared when you base your plan in fear! United we Stand & Divided we Fall... remember? If you have nothing to fight & die for, you have nothing to live for" Well, as an American, I can now say that it is pointless for me to fight if I don't have YOU next to me fighting for the same cause. PTSD is a response by normal people to an abnormal situation |

Up here in the northern part of the state cell coverage is spotty and when you get north of the bridge is darn near non-existent.
Plus what if something were to happen like the blackout in 2003 and cell circuits are all busy and tied up for hours or even days. |
